My students seem to understand the concept but have a hard time remembering the vocab of rotate, translate and reflect. St. Patrick's Day

Magical math is a common theme around St. Patrick's Day. Hopefully you can get in the fun spirit of being green at least if only for a day! My students are still working on grid coordinates and fractions as we move into spring. These brightly colored activities are just what we need as the weather turns warmer.

This activity center has students using real world math by multiplying and dividing fractions. Given a recipe, students must first divide the fraction by the number of servings the recipe makes and then multiply by the number of leprechauns being served to determine how much is needed. This is a wonderful activity for small groups. I had my students do a contest. In teams they had to figure out ingredients for one to six leprechauns. The first team to get all figures correct, were crowned the winner. My kids devoured this activity! This center comes with 4 recipe cards, 6 serving cards and 4 answer cards. Algebra Centers

My elementary students get a kick out of doing algebra! Each time I tell my students we will be working on algebra, they get excited. For Valentine's Day, I made two quick centers to play with algebra. I also made each center in both valentine theme and basketball theme so that we can use it again as a review in March. These centers lend themselves easily for small groups, independent work and great for pair shares.

Elementary Algebra Math Centers

The Equation Writing Center contains 16 word problem cards and one answer key. Each card has a word problem than can be solved with an algebraic equation. Students have to choose which equation will provide the answer. This is a much different skill than just giving an answer. My students love being challenged with what they call fun math. Students can use in small groups or independently.

Elementary Algebra Math Centers

Thanksgiving Craft Activity Display

Autumn is my favorite season. I love the warm color palette and the cooler air. It brings with it a special happy feeling. As we move into the holidays, I always find the school days get long. One of my favorite activities that I do every year is Turkey for Times Tables. I don't like my students to always use a pattern but this turns out so cute. I love making a bulletin board for it! I give them the template for the turkey printed on brown construction paper. They then have to design and cut out their own feathers from multicolored paper. We would talk about symmetry and how we wanted our turkeys to look. I have even used wiggle eyes instead of the eyes on the turkey cut out. My students love it.

I use the turkey by having students choose a math fact set to work on. Sometimes I assigned them the fact set to use. Students then write the number on the turkey. Then on each feather, they would write the problem multiplied by that number for 1 through 9. It was that simple but oh so adorable. Get yours today at my Teacher's Notebook Store today!

Monster Multiplication Management

Providing students a foundation to memorize multiplication facts can be challenging. It seems some students learn them easy where others need constant help. I find the more things I put in their hands, have them touch, see, read, recite and do, the stronger the quick recall becomes. I have made a multiplication lapbook that can be used as a reference and management system. Students can track which facts they have mastered, review key vocabulary and keep papers together. They can refer to the chart or flash cards that can be stored if they are stuck on a fact. Check out these pictures below.
